TESTING

How do you test a smoke detector?

Important: You must put your account on test with a tattletale operator before you test your Smoke Detector.

Call us to put your account on test. Once on test, press the test button on the Smoke Detector. Enter your 4-digit arming code into the tattletale to silence the siren. If the Zone 8 Light remains solid, press the "#" button to clear it.

MOUNTING

Where is the best place to put a Smoke Detector?

The best location is at a high point where smoke will accumulate. The smoke detector should be located away from air conditioners, heating registers, and any other ventilation source that may interfere with smoke entering the alarm.

PROGRAMMING

I programmed a Motion Detector to Zone 8. Why do the Police show up when it senses motion?

Zone 8 is set up as a 24 Hour Zone, regardless of what accessory you have programmed to it. This can be changed by programming the base unit.

I have more than 8 Smoke Detectors. Why can't I use Zone 3 or Zone 4 to add more?

You cannot put Smoke Detectors on Zone 3 because the Indoor Motion on the front of the base unit is hard-wired to Zone 3.

You cannot put them on Zone 4 because the Rattlesnake Tamper in the base unit is hard-wired to Zone 4.

Frequently Asked Questions

MORE

How do I change the battery?

First, call a tattletale operator to place the system on test. Once you have done this, then you can proceed to open the Smoke Detector and change the battery. Remember to hit the Reset Button.

Why does the Police Department show up when my Smoke Detector goes off?

If you do not want the Police dispatched and they do show up, then your monitoring is likely not set up correctly.

My base unit is not armed and the Smoke Detector is going off. Why?

The Smoke Detector is likely programmed to a 24 Hour Zone, which means that even if the base unit is not armed, the zone can still be set off.

Why does the Smoke Detector go off and the unit does not?

It is likely not programmed correctly, or it is out of range of the unit.

Why does the Smoke Detector keep going off?

This could be due to a dirty smoke chamber in the Smoke Detector. To clean, spray it with a can of compressed air.

Why can't I bypass Zone 8?

Zone 8 is set up as a 24 Hour Zone. The 24 Hour Zone is designed so that it cannot be bypassed.

My Zone Light is lit and won't go off. What do I do?

Press and hold the "#" button. This should clear it out.

Are the Smoke Detectors UL listed?

The Smoke Detectors are UL listed and NFPA approved. The transmission from the Smoke Detector to the tattletale is not UL listed or NFPA approved.
