TESTING

How do I test it?

You can test this detector by tapping it or jingling your keys. While you do this, the LED light on the detector should flash while you are making the noise.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS

Where should I mount the sensor?

Because the sound of breaking glass travels directionally out from the broken window, the best location to mount the Glass Break Detector is on a wall or other vertical surface directly opposite of the window you want to protect.

Place the sensor within the sensor’s range. (12 to 20 ft. depending on the type of glass.)

What is the recommended distance from the sensor to the glass?

The maximum distance is 15' away.

Will it hear the glass break from a distance?

Not necessarily. You will need to place a Glass Break Detector in each room you want to protect.

Frequently Asked Questions

MORE

How does this sensor work?

The Glass Break Detector “listens” for the sound that breaking glass makes.

Can the detector hear glass breaking outside of my home?

No, the sensor cannot hear through walls.

Why does bubble wrap set it off?

The noise that bubble wrap makes when you are removing it from the detector has a similar frequency to the sound that breaking glass makes, which can set off the sensor.

Will breaking plexiglass set it off?

No. Plexiglass does not make the same sound that is needed to trip the sensor.

What is the typical battery life of the Glass Break?

The typical battery life is 2-3 years. However, in a noisy environment the battery life will be diminished.

For optimal battery life, keep sensor away from sources of sound such as speakers, televisions, noisy kitchens, etc.

Why is there a rapidly flashing zone light on the tattletale base unit that corresponds to the zone of my Glass Break Detector?

  1. Check that the sensor’s 3V battery is above 2.9V. If not, replace.

  2. Check that the sensor’s battery hasn’t been dislodged. If it is dislodged, insert the battery correctly and press the black Reset Button.

  3. Verify the sensor is within range of the tattletale base unit.

  4. There may be damage to the sensor that would require repair or replacement.
