Dual Beam Outdoor Sensor

The Dual Beam Outdoor Motion Sensor has an adjustable range up to 40 ft. Two discreet detection areas must be tripped to trigger an alarm, which prevents false alarms caused by birds and other small animals.

TESTING

How do I test it?

To ensure the device is communicating properly, you can open the front cover of the sensor, which will generate a tamper signal seen as a flashing Zone Light on the main base unit.

You can also temporarily turn on the sensor's Walk Test Mode by following the instructions on the inside of the front cover. Look at the blue square with 3 white switches on the inside of the sensor, and turn the number 1 & 2 switch to the On position.

Walk Test Mode prevents the motion sensor from entering Sleep Mode, and generates a light on the sensor and a flashing Zone Light on the main base unit each time the movement is detected.

You must turn Walk Test Mode off after ensuring the sensor is functioning, as this mode greatly reduces the battery life of your sensor.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS

How far up should I mount it?

You should mount the sensor 48" off the ground to prevent movement underneath the sensor from going undetected.

You should always mount the sensor with the front LED light on top.

Frequently Asked Questions

MORE

What does "Dual Beam" mean?

This outdoor motion detector employs 2 motion-sensing beams that both must be crossed in order to trigger an alarm.

One beam looks straight out, parallel to the ground, and the other is angled down, looking at the ground.

This is designed to detect "human-sized" movement that crosses both beams, as opposed to a bird or animal that would only cross one beam.

Why doesn't the sensor seem to see me?

This sensor has a battery-saving Sleep Mode that temporarily puts the sensor to "sleep" after it senses motion and transmits a signal to the base unit after five minutes has passed.

It is likely the sensor is in Sleep Mode if movement doesn't generate a response.

Why doesn't it see out 40'?

The range of this sensor is adjustable by moving the A-B-C-D switch inside the sensor. Your switch should be set to A for maximum distance.

The range of the sensor is also affected by how your sensor is positioned.

Your sensor will only attain 40' distance if it is:

  • Mounted securely, perpendicularly to the ground

  • 48" high

  • On level ground

It's very windy outside. Why does my sensor keep going off?

Blowing debris and vegetation can cross both beams and trip the sensor.

Verify the sensor is mounted securely.

Why does my sensor stay tripped?

A tamper switch prevents unauthorized access to the detector while the system is armed.

If the front cover of the sensor is not closed properly, the sensor will generate a constant tripped signal.

The tamper switch is located by removing the front cover and looking in the upper right corner of the sensor, just below the wiring. You should see a small flat metal tab.

If this tamper switch is broken or left open, it will generate a constant open signal.

If it is closed and you still get a tripped signal, ensure the motion is not in Walk Test Mode.
